During the healing process, wooden tubes were inserted in the nostrils for air passage. Today, rhinoplasty is much advanced. It has become one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries with a recovery period that usually lasts about two weeks.

An Italian man is considered the “father” of modern day plastic surgery.

The 15th-century Italian surgeon, Gaspare Tagliacozzi is considered to be the father of modern-day plastic surgery.

The British influenced the industry.

The British started using plastic surgery in the 17th century. At that time, an Indian masonry repaired the nose of a British driver. The British adopted the ancient surgery procedure and made some advancements to it.

Wounded soldiers helped shape the industry.

In ancient Rome, reconstructive plastic surgery helped wounded soldiers. It started as a way to remove scars. In World War I, plastic surgery techniques and innovations were further developed to help wounded soldiers. There were a significant amount of facial injuries during the war and doctors stepped up to address the need. This is the time that plastic surgery became a legitimate branch of medical science.

In 1977, the modern liposuction technique was developed in France by Dr. Yves-Gerard Illouz. He performed the procedure on a woman who had a fat growth on her back. He was able to remove the growth without any scars.
