Hollywood Stars Are Influencing Teen Plastic Surgery, But Are They Ready?

High school is one of the most challenging parts of our young lives. There are so many people and so many different ways to fit in, but it can still be hard if you aren’t willing or confident enough to put yourself out there. Most young people pick out their own flaws harder than anyone else ever will. This type of behavior can really damage ones self-esteem and prevent them from building important social skills at this critical age.

Plastic surgery can be the answer, but there are steps to take to ensure that your teenager has both the maturity level and the understanding of what they are going to undertake before they can be cleared for the plastic surgery.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons states that it is important for the parents of the teenager to note that their child has stated clearly and over multiple times their desire for the procedure. The more time they take to think this procedure over, the more confident in their decision they will become.

Dr. Richard Martin can perform a variety of facial surgeries that include acne treatments, rhinoplasty, and otoplasty (also called ear surgery). Each of these procedures is a common reason for teenagers to seek out the help of a plastic surgeon. Like all procedures, there are risks and limitations. It is important that the teenager considering undergoing this process understands everything about it and has realistic expectations.

Acne Treatments

Acne treatments will clean the skin and control breakouts as well as prevent possible or further scarring.

Otoplasty

Otoplasty, or reshaping the ears (ear surgery) should wait until after the child has reached maturity, this usually happens at around age seven. Otoplasty can (1) help make sure that your ears aren’t protruding too much from your head (2) make your ears more symmetrical, and (3) smooth out the skin.

Rhinoplasty

Also known as a reshaping of the nose, rhinoplasty can help proportion your face, remove bumps and humps, and even repair your nostrils.
